Tried and True: Capsule Makeup Products
For me, wellness means being intentional about what I am putting in my body and what I am putting on it. I am by no means anti-this or that, but I do try to choose products with fewer irritants, harsh chemicals, and ingredients that I can’t pronounce in them as much as I can. There are a few OG beauty products that I don’t think I will ever part with (unless a “cleaner” version becomes available) like nail care routine. I love doing Gel-X nails at home, I have a full nail system that I use to create salon-quality nails (A more detailed post on that coming soon). Some of those products aren’t the best, and I am okay with that because I enjoy the process of doing this small act of self-care. If a product works well, I will use it, but if I can find a cleaner alternative option that performs just as well, I’ll always gravitate towards that.
Becoming more mindful about what products I buy was a journey, filled with trial and error. I have been on each end of the spectrum with beauty products. I’ve always been intrigued with the art of creating beautiful makeup looks and even created a YouTube channel with a few beauty tutorials (maybe I will share one day). The journey of starting my YouTube channel led me to want to do makeup as a living. So I began my professional makeup journey and began working at Mac Cosmetics. about 9 years ago.. Part of my job was wearing a themed makeup look to work, which was so much fun and challenged me artistically. Then, I became a mom and transitioned from working for Mac full-time to being a SAHM. As you can imagine, my days looked a little different. I went from wearing a full face of makeup almost every day of the week to wearing no makeup for days in a row. Although I missed the fun of creating makeup looks, this transition paved the way for me to start fresh and rediscover how I wanted to utilize makeup to fit my lifestyle and enhance my features.
Although my routine has shifted so much over the last few years, I’ve truly enjoyed discovering what I like, what works for me, and what fits my lifestyle. I’ve found that I’ve always been a minimal gal at heart and I love a product that serves multiple purposes. Like a cream blush that can also be used as a lip color, or a brow pencil that can also be used as an eyeliner. Over the last few years, I’ve done my research and honed in on simplifying my beauty routine by exploring clean products that truly work and sticking to those products without overconsuming. One of my favorite resources I’ve been using more frequently is the Yuka app. This has become a great resource when I want more details on the effects of the ingredients in a product.
My ideal go-to makeup is a nice full brow, concealing problem areas, brightened under eyes, a cream blush, and a full, voluminous lash. Below, I’ve listed my must-have tried and true beauty products that I use on rotation. Follow me on Instagram and let me know if you’ve tried any of these products. I would love to know your favorite beauty products.
