A Morning Prayer for an Intentional Day

Mornings can often feel overwhelming. Hundreds of thoughts rush in before we gain consciousness, distracting us from God’s gentle voice. Although we may be overwhelmed by this, He is not. He knows this is a part of our human nature and is not disappointed. He is patient and offers grace as He eagerly waits for us to bring our consciousness back to Him with a heart of thanksgiving for the gift of a new day.

Let's speak this prayer out loud to reclaim our day by bringing our thoughts and intentions back to God.

Holy Spirit I invite you into this day to walk ahead of me, directing my every step ('If the Spirit is the source of our life, we must also allow the Spirit to direct every aspect of our lives. - Galatians 5:25"). I pray that I hear You through all the noise. I desire that your soft still voice be illuminated in my mind over the many thoughts fighting to dictate my decisions, mood, and motives. Help me file away the thoughts that are not relevant to what you desire from me today and bring the thoughts that are to the forefront of my mind.

I desire to be intentional today so that I don't fall into the habit of filling this day with tasks. I relinquish control to you. I know you've called me to be productive today not busy. Please give me the wisdom to understand the difference, and focus on what needs my attention most today. I thank you today for your strength and self-control to disrupt the distractions that plant seeds of procrastination.

I know that some days are meant for less doing and more rest. If that day is today please help me break free from the feeling of “not doing enough” and allow me to have confidence that whatever you’ve called me to do today is enough.

I ask for your peace and freedom from thoughts of worry. Your word says in Matthew 6:34 “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” I claim this truth today.

I will eagerly search for you today as I know you are alive in everything around me. I will wait in anticipation for all you have in store for me today. I will have childlike excitement and a heart of expectation! Remind me to pause when needed and continuously seek your face throughout this day.

Thank you for the straight, narrow, and well-lit path you offer me today. I will keep my plans tentative to make room for what you desire to do today. Help me remember that this day is a gift and an opportunity to exercise my faith in you by releasing my will for yours.

In your name, Amen.
