Creating Your Dream Day Will Create Your Dream Life
How Your Daily Habits Create the Life You Desire
If you asked me what my life looked like, if it reflected everything I deeply desired, I would have a full list ready to go. Some things on that list would include unhurried time with God daily, a more scheduled daily life, intentional rest, a "from scratch" whole food-based lifestyle, and the list goes on. The real question is, "Why are the things on this list not my reality?"
For so long, I've felt pressure to have all my ducks in a row. I felt hurried or rushed to have it all figured out as if I were running an invisible race. I needed to check everything I desired as fast as possible. Believe it or not, I don't think that I am alone in having felt (and sometimes still feeling) this way.
Society screams from the rooftop that we should have a spouse, children, a home, a thriving business, a side hustle, and be financially secure by the time we are 30 or sooner. What a task to have to conquer! It's no wonder we feel so behind when one or more of those things aren't achieved within that given timeframe.
A while back my husband and friends were talking about our dream life, career, etc. We shared our ideas, dreams, and goals which led to the follow-up question, "So how do we get there?" We didn’t come up with a solid conclusion that night. I think we were too focused solely on the big picture rather than the many small steps that it would take to get there. Here is the thing about creating a life that you desire, when we focus solely on the big picture, the result can feel heavy and out of reach.
On our way back home I was reflecting on the conversation and a thought came to my mind. I looked over at my husband and said, “You know what I should have asked you all? What does your dream day look like?” How and when do you wake up, what is the first thing you do? I went on to explain that we should be thinking about our daily habits rather than focusing on the big picture of creating this dream life.
So where do we start?
+ Write down or make note of the things that are working against creating the life you desire. “What would you do differently?
+ Next, ask yourself "Is there anything I can do right now to make this my reality?” I don’t necessarily mean to quit your job today, I am thinking on a smaller scale, for example: If you know you don't desire to work a job that requires more time away from your family then how can you plan to transition from that job? Make a list of ways you can replace your income that requires less of your time, or calculate how much money you need to set aside each check to invest in a business idea that can eventually allow you to transition out of that job.
+ Put those small steps into daily actions! Here are a few examples of the first two steps and how I can put into action daily habits that can become a part of my dream life!
What: My time with Jesus would be profoundly more exclusive and not rushed in any way.
Daily Habit: I would wake up earlier than my children so I have exclusive unhurried time with Jesus
What: Wellness within my home would be a priority meaning most meals would be made from scratch with real whole foods and clean ingredients.
Daily Habit: I would intentionally plan meals for my family, shop for those ingredients only, and write daily meals down where they can be seen by my family so that we stick to our plan.
Living the life that God desires for us is more attainable than we think but it’s how we approach it. Despite what the world says, I don't believe we are supposed to have it all figured out by a certain timeframe.
Prayer:
Lord, we believe that You created us to continuously change, grow, and mature in our walk with You to become who You’ve destined us to be, and there is no timeline for that. You’ve put into each of our hearts dreams and desires that You want to lead us to fulfilling. Please help us take the steps to create daily habits that align with Your will for us so that we may live the life You’ve destined for us. In Jesus name, Amen
